The Curved Space Diamond Structure can be simulated as well by starting with the ball and spoke model. This can be accomplished by increasing the diameter of the balls (remember these are the carbon atoms in the assembly).
The balls are enlarged until they touch each other If at that point the balls are faired into each other by means of filleting, the Curved Space Diamond Structure is simulated. Since the balls are closed spheres, the tunnel system is not apparent as it is with the enlargement of the spokes shown previously.
In reality a crystal structure is not assembled from atoms the shape of perfect spheres with the chemical bonds formed by rigid spokes. This model with the spherical carbon atoms linked by filleting is a more likely visualization of what the diamond crystal might actually look like at actual size. The real atoms are approximate spheres that are bonded together through interacting orbiting particles, which only approximate the spherical shape.
